Flying from the plains of India, travelers can enjoy breathtaking views from the aircraft window of some of the world’s highest Himalayan peaks, including the majestic Mount Everest, weather permitting. During the flight, the pilot often announces the names of the visible peaks, making the journey even more memorable.

As the aircraft gradually descends into the mountains, you will witness a stunning landscape of alpine forests, peaceful valleys, and scattered monasteries. Approaching Paro, the view becomes even more enchanting with traditional farmhouses, temples, and the beautiful valley unfolding below. Just before landing, you will catch a glimpse of the historic Paro Dzong and the flowing Paro Chhu.

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day sightseeing tour of Thimphu, the charming capital of Bhutan.

Begin with a visit to the sacred National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. This prominent stupa is an important place of worship for local residents who gather here daily to offer prayers.

Continue to Buddha Dordenma at Buddha Point, home to a magnificent 169-foot statue of Buddha overlooking the Thimphu Valley and offering spectacular panoramic views.

Next, visit the National Library of Bhutan, which houses a vast collection of ancient Bhutanese manuscripts, religious texts, and one of the largest published books in the world.

Later, explore the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory, where traditional Bhutanese paper known as Deh-sho is produced using age-old methods. Located about 1 km from the city center, the factory uses the bark of Daphne and Dhekap trees. Visitors can observe the entire handmade paper-making process and even try creating their own paper as a unique souvenir.

Also visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal, the rare and fascinating Takin.

In the evening, enjoy leisure time or take a walk to the city center at Clock Tower Square for shopping and to experience the lively local atmosphere. This is a wonderful opportunity to mingle with local residents and explore Bhutanese handicrafts.

After an early breakfast, begin a scenic drive from Thimphu to the beautiful valley of Punakha. The journey takes you through the spectacular Dochula Pass at an altitude of 3,100 meters. En route, stop at Hongtsho to complete immigration permit formalities and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.

At the summit of Dochula Pass, admire the famous Druk Wangyal Chortens—a group of 108 memorial stupas surrounded by colorful prayer flags. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the eastern Himalayan ranges, including the majestic Gangkhar Puensum, the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.

Continue your journey through picturesque villages and forests towards Punakha Valley. On the way, stop at Lobesa for lunch (direct payment) and enjoy a short hike to the revered Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the “Temple of Fertility.” Built in 1499 by Ngawang Choegyal, the temple is dedicated to the legendary saint Drukpa Kunley, famously known as the “Divine Madman.” Many couples visit this sacred site to seek blessings for fertility.

The walk to the temple passes through scenic rice fields and the traditional village of Lobesa, offering a wonderful opportunity to observe rural Bhutanese life and interact with local residents.

After the visit, continue the drive to Punakha.
Overnight stay in Punakha.

After breakfast, embark on a memorable hike to the iconic Paro Taktsang, one of the most famous landmarks in Bhutan and widely regarded among the world’s most spectacular sacred sites. Perched dramatically on a granite cliff about 1,000 meters above the Paro Valley, the monastery offers breathtaking views and a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

According to legend, the revered Buddhist master Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, flew to this location on the back of a tigress and meditated here, making the monastery one of Bhutan’s most sacred pilgrimage sites.

The hike to Tiger’s Nest takes approximately 2½ hours to reach the midway cafeteria, where visitors can relax and enjoy magnificent views of the monastery. From here, those who wish to continue can hike an additional 45 minutes uphill to reach a closer viewpoint of the monastery.

After exploring the area, descend back to the base, which usually takes about 1½ hours. Later, return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely walk through Paro Market for shopping and to experience the local atmosphere.
